Kevin, we serve IAMS dog food ("IAMS that IAMS?"), and she sleeps outside. But no one rubs her tummy quite like I do.

Seriously, you're right on. We should be WAY more delighted in God than a dog is delighted in us. A 5th-day creature may marvel at a 6th-day creature, but how much more should all creatures marvel at the creator Himself!

What is it that Ella sees in you that causes her to abound in her affection to you? Are you feeding her the best dog food, treats and table scraps. Is she expressing gratitude for the wonderfully comfortable sleeping arrangements she enjoys. Doesn't she long to have her tummy rubbed by a stranger?

Isn't it amazing how much love Ella exhibits over purely natural things. How much more blessed we are to have not only the natural realm to enjoy but even more beautiful is the Spiritual realm. The moral excellency and beauty of God in Christ, His holiness should cause even greater delight.

The flip-side...

People are a lot like cats. They only go to their master when they're desperately hungry or absolutely need attention right away...but it's always on their terms.

Reminds me of the old expression, "Dogs think they're human. Cats think they're God." How often do we behave like we don't really need God or that we're somehow in control?
